Emily "Millie" Polly Stamper
Birth: Aug. 2, 1778
Pittsylvania County
Virginia, USA
Death: Apr. 17, 1850
Morgan County
Kentucky, USA

Some people are disputing the assertion that Emily "Millie" was the daughter of Edward Polly.

In his pension application, Edward Polly stated that he had twelve children and then proceeded to name them. He did not name an Emily or Millie.

The source for Emily being a Polly and daughter of Edward is Oliver Stamper's book "Descendants of James Stamper" written in the 1940's. He offered no proof or documentation.

Some researchers have concluded that Emily was actually a Whitaker. William Stamper and Emily's oldest son John Whit Stamper is referred to in early Perry Co., Kentucky court records as John Whitaker Stamper.

The name Millie is found throughout the Whitaker line, but not among the Polly descendants of Letcher Co., KY.

Some years ago, a lady wrote about this and the DAR had denied her admission through this line because there was insufficient evidence that Emily Stamper, wife of William, was the daughter of Edward Polly.
Here's one theory:

Millie, as she was called, was the daughter of Peter Whitaker and Amelia Bates. Emily was born on 2 Aug 1778 in Pittsylvania Co, VA, died on 17 Apr 1850 in Morgan Co, Kentucky at age 71, and was buried in Stamper Cemetery; Grassy Creek, Morgan Co, KY.
Here's another theory:

Oliver Stamper in his book, "Descendants of James Stamper 1750-1826" (1945), wrote:

William Stamper, farmer, trapper, hunter and trader. Referred to by some of his descendants as Old Billie or Old William b. March 22, 1774, in NC. m. Emily (Millie) Polly, daughter of Edward (Edwin or Edmund} and Agnes (Mullins) Polly. Edw. Polly was born in 1758 and was a private in the Revolution under Captains Burton and Webb, Colonels Gibson and Stephen of the Virginia Line. Edw. Polly migrated from NC to Kentucky and settled at or near Mayking on the Kentucky River in what is now Letcher Co, where he died about 1845.

Children from Millie and William were:
