Catherine was born at Plattsburg, New York on 29 February 1834 or 1835 to Daniel COOPAN, a New York native; died of paralysis, at her home at Caledonia, Minnesota, on 10 November 1905, after a long illness; was buried there at Evergreen Cemetery by Rev. W.E. KING, a Methodist minister [Her Obituary, Caledonia Argus, 17 Nov. 1905].

At the time of her marriage in Massachusetts to Oliver DUNBAR in 1853, he was a blacksmith, aged 22.

Soon after their marriage, Oliver and Catherine removed to Caledonia, Minnesota along with his brother John J. in September 1853, bringing a dog with them for protection [T.R. Stewart, Memoirs, p. 9A, 1905]. Oliver C. was granted land in Caledonia Township on 9 September 1854 by the U.S. Government [Houston Co. Deeds]. Until 1860 his occupation was also given as a blacksmith. In 1870 he worked on a farm, where Mrs. Oliver DUNBAR cut 20 acres of wheat with a McCormick reaper [1870 U.S. Census; Houston County Journal, 2 Aug. 1870]. I

Catherine, a widow, lived at Caledonia between 1895 and 1900 with her daughter Virginia Landers Dunbar [1895 Minnesota State Census; 1900 U.S. Census]. She sold land at Caledonia Township on 27 September 1903 and 6 April 1904.

Rev. W. E. KING, a Methodist pastor, officiated at her funeral [Her Obituary, Caledonia Argus, Nov. 1905]. The final decree of her probate is dated 16 July 1906 [Houston Co. Deeds].
