Rev. Allen Boone DeHart Dies of Heart Attack May 18th

Funeral services were held in Mertens Baptist Church on Friday, May 19, 1950 for Rev. Allen Boone DeHart of that city. He had been pastor of the Baptist church for the past three years. His body was then brought to Evant where another service was held in the Evant Baptist Church of which he had also been pastor at one time. Rev. F. T. Fisher, pastor of the Evant Methodist Church and Rev. Raymond Bailey, Baptist pastor conducted the services.
Rev. DeHart was born Sept. 4, 1897, in Gerald, McLennan Co. Texas, to George Thomas and Julia Angeline DeHart. He was married to the former Nellie Cordelia Stephens on April 14, 1918, in Hamilton Co. One daughter was born to this union, Mildred DeHart Drake. Allen was united with the Baptist Church in early childhood and was licensed to preach in the Ohio Baptist church on July 21, 1922. He also served as pastor of that church.
He is survived by his widow, Nellie DeHart of Mertens, one daughter, Mrs. Sam (Mildred) Drake, his mother, Mrs. George (Julia) DeHart, a sister, Pearl DeHart Stephens, and a brother, Elmer Travis DeHart Sr. Two grandchildren; Sarah and Alton Earl Drake.
The deacons of Mertens Baptist Church served as pallbearers. A Masonic service was held at the grave side in Murphree Cemetery in Evant and was conducted by the Bee House Lodge.
SERVICES HELD FOR REV. DeHART, MERTENS, TEXAS
Funeral services for the Rev. Allen Boone DeHart were held Friday morning at the Mertens Baptist Church. Rev. DeHart was pastor there for the past three years. He died at 9:00 AM in his home in Mertens on Thursday.Conducting the funeral services were the Rev. J. W. Bruner, Hillsboro, Rev. S. C. Ellis, Frost, Rev. J. B. Cole of Mertens, and Rev. M. O. Cheek of Waco. Pallbearers were church deacons. McCormick Funeral Home of Frost, took the body to Evant for interment.
Services there were conducted by Rev. Bailey and Rev. F. T. Fisher, formerly of Mertens. Masons were in charge of graveside services in Murphree Cemetery.
He was affecionately called "Baba" by his grandchildren.
