He was born July 4, 1909, in Hurley, Wis., to Zigmund and Anna Zimmerman and grew up in Duluth. Jack married Dorothy Azine on Nov. 6, 1932 in Duluth and had been a Virginia resident since 1935.
Jack was the owner and operator of Zimmerman Grocery and Zimmerman Furniture and Carpet, both of Virginia. Jack was very active in the furniture and carpet business until going into the nursing home in the middle of March of this year.
He was a member of Bnai Abraham Synagogue of Virginia and Virginia Elks Lodge 1003. Jack was an avid bowler and golfer.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; son, Howard (Sheila) Zimmerman; daughter, Toby (Bob) Jackson; daughter-in-law, Kathie Zimmerman; 13 grandchildren, Scott, Dan, Nate, Lisa, Richard, Julie, Jeff, Mark, Russ, Shari, Dustin, Gary and Ericka; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Zimmerman, on March 7, 2004; one sister, Marion Kenner; and four brothers, Paul, Abe, Morris and Max.
Burial will be in the Range Hebrew Cemetery in Virginia.
