Mavis Signora (Thostenson) Ellingson was born on Saturday, February 26, 1921, to parents Andrew and Julia (Wilson) Thostenson in Wood Lake Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Mavis was baptized and confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, Minnesota. She attended public school in Hanley Falls and graduated from High School in 1939.
On September 14, 1941, she married Lyman Ellingson of Wood Lake at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. They resided on the farm southeast of Hanley Falls until retiring from farming in 1978. At that time they moved into Hanley Falls.
Mavis enjoyed music. She sang in both the church choir and the Harmonettes for 35 years and directed both the Junior and Senior Church Choirs. She taught Sunday School, participated in Study Club, Circle, and Birthday Club. Mavis especially enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Mavis and Lyman were custodians of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church for several years.
Mavis passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at the age of 84 years and 11 months.
She is survived by her husband, Lyman; and her children, Vernon (and Peggy), Dale (and Sue), Carol (and Bruce) Tusberg, Bruce (and fiance Dianna Schafer), Gary (and Marge), and Dan (and Linda). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Tebert, Marvin, and Edward; three sisters: Sadie, Sarah, and Esther; and daughter-in-law Geri Ellingson; granddaughter Leslie Lynn Eliingson; and great grandson Brandon Scott Ellingson.
