Nahum was the first Postmaster of "Bisbeetown," now known as Westview in Livingston County, New York. He was appointed 17 Feb 1858 and his certificate hangs in the Ossian Town Hall.

Place of burial for Nahum is questionable even though he is listed for East Eckford Cemetery where his wife Maria/Mariah is buried. All indications are that he returned to Livingston Co., NY where he remarried Mrs. Althea (Lovejoy) Wilcox and died. Probable place of burial is Westview Cemetery, Ossian, Livingston County, New York where many of his ancestors and relatives are buried.

They also had a daughter Sarah/Sally who married Thomas J. Walker. Family research suggests that Thomas died 6 Aug 1851 in Detroit, MI and Sarah died 22 Mar 1885 in Olivet, Eaton, MI. Burial places are unknown. The 1840 US Census for Eckford, MI. show Thomas J. Walker living next door to a "Norman" Bisbee. I believe it should have been recorded as NAHUM not Norman.

WAR OF 1812
According to family papers, Nahum was drafted into the War of 1812 at Albany, NY. He fought at the Battle of Sackett's Harbor and was brought home sick, nearly losing the sight of one eye.
He is listed as "Naham Bisby," 10 Regiment (Prior's) NY Militia. He was inducted as a Corporal and discharged as a Sergeant.
