"The Great Builder" was responsible for 35 major arterial highways, public housing projects (28,000 units), the 1964-65 World's Fair, Shea Stadium, Lincoln Center, Jones Beach, The Triboro, Bronx-Whitestone, Throgs Neck and Verrazano Bridges, and the list goes on and on. At one time he had 80,000 people working under him. In the end, he crossed the wrong people and became persona non grata by the time of his death, on Long Island in 1981.
