Born Jan Wisniewski, my great-grandfather "Americanized" his name to John Wisneski. He is the son of Michael Wisniewski and Eva Lipowski-Wisniewski. He had 4 siblings: Helen Wisniewski, Stanley Wisniewski, Anna Wisniewski-Bartkowski and Theofilla Wisniewski-Bartkowski.
My great-grandfather arrived in the United States of America on November 20, 1904 and travelled by ship to get here. All of his siblings immigranted to the USA with the exception of Theofilla, who settled in France.
He married Marjanna (Mary) Cegelka on November 24, 1907 at Sacred Heart Church in South Scranton, Pennsylvania. They had 13 children: 2 boys who were named Stanley and who died in infancy, Stella Wisneski-Rychick-Miller (b. Jan. 1910 - deceased), Anthony Wisneski (b. Aug. 1911 - deceased), Lydia Wisneski-Tomczyk (b. Sept. 1913), Bertha Wisneski-Kasztejna (b. Aug. 1915, d. July 4, 1998), Edna Wisneski-Grzyb (b. Nov. 13, 1919 d. Jan. 1, 2012), Edward Wisneski (b. May 1921 - deceased), John Wisneski (b. May 1923 - deceased), Mary Wisneski-Zukauskas (b. Nov. 1924), Wanda Wisneski-Dumonski (b. Mar. 1929 - deceased), and Henry Wisneski (b. Oct. 1932).
My great-grandfather worked as a coal miner in Scranton.
