Eddie Hennessee was killed in a helicopter crash accident September 18, 1969 while performing his duties as a navy crewman. At the time of the crash, he was part of a helicopter crew flying from the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, during a NATO exercise called "Operation PeaceKeeper" in the North Alantic waters. The helicopter crashed shortly after take-off. His body was never recovered. Eddie had been a navy airman and in the service for 28 months. A 1965 graduate of Drexel High School, he attended North Carolina State University at Raleigh for one year prior to entering service. His hometown was Valdese, Burke Co., North Carolina. The son of P. Edwin and Faye(Lowery)Hennessee. He was married to Bobbie Jean Wilhite.
