James E. "Jake" Brown, 81 of Jesup, Ga. died Friday, September 14, 2012 at his residence after an extended illness. The Pierce County, Ga. native had lived in Wayne County, Ga. the past 44 years, was a member of Crossroads Church of God, a U.S. Army Veteran and owner of James E. Brown Trucking Company. He was predeceased by his wife, Rachel Thrift Brown; parents, Rev. O.B. and Mary Brown, sister, Estelle Varnedore and Dorothy Miller.

Survivors are a companion, Jane Blackwell of Jesup, Ga.; sisters, Thelma Heath of Bristol, Ga., Ethel Roberson of Offerman, Ga., Louise Lee of Winter Haven, Fla., Christine Hargett of Jacksonville, Fla., Inez Taylor, Elsie Ruth McClaughtry both of Florence, S.C.; special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Monday, September 17, 2012 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Rev. Hulet Smith, Rev. Maurice Floyd and Rev. Eddie Roberson officiating along with the American Legion Post 311's presentation of the U.S. Flag. Interment will be in the Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Russ Roberson, Billy Varnedore, Clinton Varnedore, Paul Chancey, T.V. Heath and Randy Deal. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sr. Adult Sunday school class of Crossroads Church of God, Bobby Sikes and Greg Sikes.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
