Funeral services were held Monday for Lott A. Bailey, 103-year-old McComb, Miss., man, kin of several Baton Rougeans including Rep. Joe Keogh. Bailey died Sunday afternoon following a stroke.
He was the great-grandfather of Rep. Keogh, grandfather of Keogh's mother, Mrs. Vincent Keogh, and father of William M. Bailey, all of Baton Rouge.
The 103-year-old Bailey was born in McCall Creek, Miss., March 28, 1863. He moved to McComb in 1903 and retired from the Illinois Central Railroad in 1937.
He was the son of a Confederate soldier and told stories of his father's return from the Civil War.
He was a member of the East McComb Baptist Church for 60 years.
Other survivors include another son, James A. Bailey of New Orleans; four daughters: Mrs. R. A. Wilson of Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. Eugene Pine of Meridian, Miss., Mrs. Ruth Davis and Mrs. Sybil Smith, both of McComb; 16 grandchildren, including Mrs. Keogh; 25 great-grandchildren, including Rep. Keogh; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Church rites were held at the East McComb Baptist Church. Burial was in the Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.
