Comedian. He received notoriety as an American comedian during the 1950s to early 1970, who had the uncanny ability to spell words and pronounce them backwards. He could write words backwards, upside down and in ways that amazed audiences around the word. He performed many times in a Vaudevillian-type stand-up comedy routine for over two decades on various television shows such as "The Ed Sullivan Show," "The Tonight Show," "The Merv Griffin Show," "The Dean Martin Show," and "The Mike Douglas Show." On January 29, 1979 in his College Park residence, three male intruders came to his home demanding money. Since Edmondson had no cash, he wrote a check for $300 to please these men. After that, the men took him in his car to an isolated spot and shot him in the head three times killing him. Eventually, the three men were captured, brought to trial, found guilty and sentence to life in prison. Two days after the tragedy, on the late-night television comedy program, "Saturday Night Live," Chevy Chase satirized the event by saying Edmondson was calling for "Pleh, Pleh!" For this reason, his death became even more news-worthy.
