Armstead W. Branscome died July 18, 2010, at the age of 89. He was a dentist in Colbert County for 33 years and a longtime deacon and Sunday school director at First Baptist Church in Tuscumbia.

His love of gardening and cooking blessed the lives of all who knew him. His flower arrangements and chicken stew brought countless smiles. After his retirement, his woodworking abilities brought acclaim from all who have seen his wonderful handiwork. His family will be blessed with the treasures of his creations for generations to come.

After serving in the Navy as a pharmacist's mate on a troop transport ship during World War II, he returned to Alabama to finish his undergraduate work at UNA (known then as Florence Normal). He went from there to Baylor Dental College in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated in the top ten in his class. He returned to his hometown in 1951 to open his dental practice.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Martha Uptain Branscome; parents, Sallie Gargis Branscome and James Armstead Branscome; and seven siblings, Jimmy, Ruby, George, Martha, Thelma, Clyde and Joseph.

He was blessed to be visited by many of his numerous nieces and nephews and old friends during his final days.

The family would like to express thanks to Keller Hospice for their watchful keeping during his final days. We give special appreciation to Susan Moseley, Grace Gunn and our sitter, Sheila Archer, for their loving caregiving. We are forever grateful for their help during the past year.
