| Birth: | Sep. 6, 1729 | | Death: | Jan. 4, 1786 |  Philosopher, philanthropist, ancestor of the composer Felix Mendelssohn and friend of the dramatist Lessing, who based on him his character 'Nathan the Wise'. The tombstone is inscribed on one side in Hebrew, on the other in German. The little pebbles on the stone are those left by visitors in accordance with Jewish tradition.
