Indian Novelist, Journalist. Born in Kamala Purnaiya in Mysore, India, she graduated with a degree in history from the University of Madras and later immigrated to England in 1948, to take a job in journalism. In 1955, she published her first novel, "Nectar In A Sieve", a bestseller and named as one of the most notable books by the American Library Association. From 1965 to 1983, some of her other works included "Some Inner Fury", "A Silence of Desire", "Possession", "A Handful of Rice", "The Nowhere Man", "Two Virgins", "The Golden Honeycomb" and "Pleasure City". She passed away from Kidney failure in London, England, at age 80.
