Kenneth Sayers Kenny Sayers died on Sunday, November 22, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 83 years of age, having retired in August of 1995 from Crawford & Russell/ John Brown Co. in Houston where he worked for over 20 years as a Chief Piping Engineer. Kenny was born on June 2, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri during the Depression. He moved with his family to Houston when he was a teenager. He joined the Army the day after he was old enough to fight for our country and served in the South Pacific. He served in the Philippine islands and in Japan. In 1947 he married his next door sweetheart, Ramona Smith. They eloped at a young age and spent the next 43 years together. Following his retirement, Kenny moved to Georgetown, Texas where he built the log cabin he always dreamed of. He lived on a ranch in the country and worked on some project every day. He never slowed down, and was in excellent physical health until his diagnosis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona; his parents, George and Bess Sayers; and his sister Mary Floores. He is survived by his sister Alice Sayers Ownby; his daughter, Susan and husband Jeff Rusk; his son, Keith Sayers; his granddaughters Stacey Sayers Byrum, Kenna Rusk and Camry Rusk, and his great-granddaughters, Loralai and Lillian Byrum. Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kenny will be laid to rest beside his beloved Ramona in Houston. A graveside service will be held at the Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Wed.
