Rose Anne (Wettengel) Smith was born to George and Loyola (Hannigan) Wettengel on September 11, 1929 at Dunlap, Iowa. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Dunlap in 1947. She was united in marriage to Donald B. Smith on September 18, 1948 at the Woodbine Sacred Heart Parish in Woodbine, Iowa. To this union three children were born. Rose taught grade school for three years. She and Donald lived at Woodbine, Iowa until 1952, lived in Syracuse till 1958 and then moved to Tecumseh where they raised their family until retiring and moving to Lincoln in 1998. Rose was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church. She and Donald had transferred their membership from St. Andrew Catholic in Tecumseh to St. Patrick's in Lincoln in 1998. She and Donald spent winters in Mission, Texas for many years. Rose was very active in the Catholic Church, school and especially the Altar Society. She was an accomplished seamstress, even winning awards in Texas and Florida. Her husband Donald passed away January 11, 2012. Rose passed away on April 6, 2012 at the age of 82 years.
Rose is survived by her son Richard Smith and daughter Kathryn Davison and husband Leo all of Lincoln, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brother, Bill Wettengel of Marshall, Texas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald, son, Gerald in 1994 and 5 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Monday from 9:a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh. Memorials may go to the St. Andrew Catholic Altar Society, Tecumseh.
