On April 18, 1898 Henry Newton's father deeded him the South one-half of the 154 acre Charles Tapp Survey, patented to Amy Hamilton by the State of Texas. This is where Henry and Eleanor lived for many years and where all their children were born. The family attended the Center Grove Church where Henry led the singing and took an active interest in the affairs of both church and community. He taught singing schools in the county. He became a barber and worked in Linden for a numbr of years before moving to Douglassville, Texas where he continued his profession as a barber. He moved back to the farm in 1926.
