PASSING OF JONATHAN W. FANCHER
The remains of the late Jonathan W. Fancher, well known former resident of Merced, who passed away on Thursday of last week in Stockton, were sent to Buchanan, Michigan for internment. His son, Clarence Fancher, accompanied the remains to Michigan.
Mr Fancher was a native of Syracuse, N Y, and was born October 2, 1835. When a young man he moved to Michigan where he taught school for several years. While living in Michigan he married Miss Margaret C Roe, who died in 1908. Mr Fancher moved to Hamlet, Indiana in 1882 and was engaged in farming there until 1902 when he came to Merced county to take charge of several hundred acres of land inherited from this brother, the late George H Fancher. He resided there until about five years ago when his heath failed and he moved to Stockton. He was a kindly, genial man and was well liked by all who knew him.
He leaves five sons and two daughters - A C Fancher pf Merced; Melvin H Fancher and Mrs Dr Denaut of Hamlet, Ind; George Fancher of Kansas; W W Fancher of Long Beach; Clarence Fancher of Fresno and Mrs Dr Winans of Chicago. He also leaves a brother, Lee R Fancher, president of the Merced Security Savings Bank.
