George A. Kendall was a son of James and Mary (Smith) Kendall who were married in Hendricks County, Indiana on Nov. 4, 1841. The 1850 Census shows George A. (age 5, born in Illinois) living with a John L. Kendall (age 41) in Middle Township, Hendricks County, Indiana. The 1860 Census shows George A. (age 16, born in Illinois) living in Union Township, Hendricks County, Indiana with a John S. Kendall (age 50) and George's half-brother, Jacob H. Kendall, Jacob's wife Margaret and their two sons, John and Trisbindas.

The 1885 Hendricks County history shows George Kendall mustered in as a Private in Company H of the 7th Indiana Infantry on Sept. 13, 1861. He died of wounds on June 20, 1864.

Kendall family histories indicate he died at Petersburg, Virginia and is buried in the National Cemetery there. Indiana G.A.R. Post 499 at Lizton, Indiana was named the George A. Kendall Post in his honor.
