In 1920 his wife and daughter are living with her parents. Sometime after leaving Manchester, Alpha joined a traveling carnival and worked as a salesman and then manager of the show. His wife, during these years with the carnival, was Maude (nee Chaplin), daughter of Edwin Eugene and Clara (Goen) Chaplin.
