At the age of twenty, in the company of his younger brother, Samuel H Dickenson came to Decatur County in 1835 from Carolina Co. Virginia, at the behest of his uncle, John I Dickenson.
His father was Thomas Dickenson and his mother was Annie Parker. The children on this union were Matilda Samuel H. John P William Thomas Lucy George W Mary Annie
He owned upto 5,000 acres of line and built a home at Steam Mill, overlooking the Chattahoochee River. In 1886, he built another home in Bainbridge where he lived until his death in 1899.
He was a Democrat and a Methodist.
He married Julia Ann Hale on Feb. 23, 1843.
