| Birth: | Feb. 27, 1911 Panama City Panama, Panama | | Death: | Dec. 20, 1979 Panama City Panama, Panama | Panamanian President. Born Max Delvalle Levy-Maduro, he served in the National Assembly and as Minister of Public Works before coming to the vice presidency under Marco Robles in 1964. In March of 1967, against the objections of the Supreme Court, the National Assembly impeached and deposed Robles on the grounds that he had illegally influenced the coming election by publicly supporting candidate David Samudio Avila. Delvalle assumed the presidency from April 8 to April 15, 1967. However, Robles was supported by both the National Guard and the Supreme Court, which ruled the impeachment unconstitutional. He was a member of the Republican Party and is distinguished as the first Jewish president in Latin America. His nephew, Eric Arturo Del Valle, served as president from 1985 to 1988.
