Enlisted in the Civil War, Union Army, Company B, Massachusetts 22nd Infantry Regiment at Lynnfield, Massachusetts. Took part in the Battle of Chickahominy, 2 Sept. 1861; Captured at Gaines Mills and confined at Richmond, Virginia, 27 June 1862; Paroled at Richmond, 13 Sept. 1862; Captured at Snickers Gap, 6 Nov. 1862; Held as a POW 14 Nov. 1862; Paroled at City Point, Richmond, 22 Nov. 1862; Held at Camp Parole, Annapolis, MD, from Nov. 24, 1862 until Feb. 1863; Returned to company for duty, 27 Feb. 1863; Promoted to Corporal, 1863; Participated in the Battle of the Wilderness, 5 May 1864, wounded in right arm; Promoted to SGT Aug. 1864; Mustered out, 17 Oct. 1864,Boston, term expired.

Married Frances A. Tibbetts, 1873.

Died of Myocardis-Uremia-Bronchial pneumonia.
