Actress. She was best known for playing the character roles of mothers, restaurant workers, or Spanish-speaking women, usually in western films and western television series. She will be best remembered for playing the role of 'Mama Gomez' in the western sports film drama, "Born Reckless" (1958). The film which was directed by Howard W. Koch, which was written for the screen by Richard H. Landau and Aubrey Schenck, and which also starred Mamie Van Doren, Jeff Richards, and Arthur Hunnicut, tells the story of Rider Kelly Cobb who travels to county rodeos to win money so he can buy a patch of land he wants to call his own. He rescues trick rider, Jackie Adams, from the clutches of an amorous sports writer after her saloon song, and they travel together. Jackie Adams begins falling in love with Rider Kelly Cobb, but he doesn't seem to notice as he continues to risk life and limb for his dream, occasionally being tempted by floozies. Jackie Adams hopes to convince a man that was born reckless to change his roaming ways. She is also best remembered for playing the role of 'Carla - Restaurant owner' in the episode entitled, "The Return Of Mitchell Campion," of the classic fantasy horror television series drama, "One Step Beyond," which originally aired on April 7, 1959, and which was hosted by John Newland, and which also starred Patrick O'Neal, Lilyan Chauvin, Richard Angarola, Fred Lerner, and Anatol Vinogradoff, tells the story of a man visiting a small Mediterranean island who is stunned when all of the island's residents recognize him and insist that he is an island resident who has returned after many years, even though he knows he has never been there before. She was born one of four children as Allegra Rachel Cohen in Chicago, Illinois, to Turkish immigrants Albert S. Cohen (1890-1958), and his wife Rachel "Rae" Varon Y Capsuto Cohen (1890-1968), on October 23, 1921. She was educated locally and attended Lake View High School in Chicago, Illinois, where she was a member of the Travel Club and Vice-President of the Honor Society. Following her education, she pursued an acting career. She entertained the US troops through the USO during World War II. She also appeared on Broadway in New York City, New York, in the stage production of the play, as 'Rosella' in "My Romance" (October 19, 1948, to January 08, 1949). During this time she also made the transition from the stage to appearing in films and eventually also appearing on television. She made her actual film debut playing the role of 'Mrs. Fritz' in the western film, "Riding Shotgun" (1954). The film which was directed by André De Toth, which was written for the screen by Thomas W. Blackburn and Kenneth Perkins, and which also starred Randolph Scott, Wayne Morris, and Joan Weldon, tells the story of when a stagecoach guard tries to warn a town of an imminent raid by a band of outlaws, the people mistake him for one of the gang. Besides, playing the role of 'Mrs. Fritz' in the western film, "Riding Shotgun" (1954), and playing the role of 'Mama Gomez' in the western sports film drama, "Born Reckless" (1958), her many other film credits include, "Darby's Rangers" (1958), "The Rounders" (1965), and "The Oscar" (1966). Following her death, her memorial services took place at Harbor Lawn-Mount Olive Mortuary in Costa Mesa, California, and she was buried in Harbor Lawn-Mount Olive Memorial Park in Costa Mesa, California. She was married in Los Angeles, California, to Harold M. Fieldman (1919-1984), on October 7, 1950. The couple had no children together. In her private life, she was known as Allegra Rachel Cohen Fieldman.
