Bernice Breitfelder, 99, formerly of 2805 Oak Crest, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services, with Hospice of Dubuque, after hospitalization at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum, Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Bernice was born on Oct. 10, 1912, in Orleans, Neb., daughter of Nicholas and Christina (Herrig) Flammang. She married Ferdinand "Fred" Breitfelder on Jan. 18, 1936, in Norton, Kan.; he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2000, after 64 years of marriage.
She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish and their rosary society.
As a hobby, Bernice kept the family history. She was a great storyteller, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are two sons, Robert (Mary Pat) Breitfelder, of St. Donatus, Iowa, and Donald (Mary Ann) Breitfelder, of Chicago;
12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary (Ray) Weber, of Bellevue, Iowa, Rose Weber and Eugenia (Ed) Brosius, both of Dubuque.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Paul, James and Aloysius 'Alvie' Flammang; and four sisters, Martha Conarty, Veronica Ryan, Margaret Adrian and Viola Jensen.
