John Gordon was the son of John, Sr. and Judith Moracet Gordon of Goochland, VA. He served in the Revolutionary War in the Virginia Militia. He received a Revolutionary War pension.
He married Mary Rountree (1761-1851) in 1783 in Albemarle, Virginia. By 1786, they are located in Kentucky by the birth of their second child. In all, they had ten children: Randel, John (b. 1786, died young), Sarah Ann (Owen), John (b. 1790), Elizabeth (Baber), William, Judah (Ramey), Thomas, David and Richardson.
