Ira (Ben) Franklin Pottenger, of Eagle, Idaho, passed away on April 5, 2012, and will truly be missed by many.
He was born on February 8, 1924, in the little town of Roseberry in Valley County, Idaho. He was 88 years old.
Ben enlisted in the army during WWII shortly after Pearl Harbor Day and spent three years in the U.S. Army, serving mostly in the Mediterranean area.
Ben's work years were spent in logging in Idaho and Oregon and he retired from the Boise Cascade Sawmill in Joseph, Oregon.
A man of many talents, Ben loved to ski, golf, travel, sing (karaoke), and dance, but his greatest enjoyment was people. He always said he never met a person he couldn't get along with.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, all of his several siblings, and his wife of many years, Margaret D. Downend Pottenger.
He is survived by his children of this first marriage, Betty Jo Adair of Pendleton, Ore., and Gary Pottenger (wife Vonnie), of Redmond, Ore. Grandchildren are Tanya Adair and Samantha and Mitch Pottenger. Ben is also survived by his wife of 24 years, Doris Baldwin Jones Pottenger, of Eagle and three stepchildren. He has one stepgrandson and family of Las Vegas. He was "Granddad" to many young people including Jason Jones, T.J. Miner, Sarah McGee and others. Ben also has many nephews and nieces and many friends he loved dearly.
Ben's memorial service will be held in Boise on Saturday, April 14 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. with visiting and refreshments afterward. Memorial location: Vineyard Church, 4950 West Bradley. Take Chinden, go north on 50th and turn on Bradley. Ben will be buried in Joseph, Oregon, at a later date.
Ben believed he was truly blessed by God and lived his life daily in faith to show it.
