Effie Van Ginkel, age 99, died Friday, January 11, 2002, at the Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15 at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. G.M de Leeuw was officiant. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Effie Van Ginkel was born on August 5, 1902 in Ede, the Netherlands, daughter of John and Rikje (Van Grootheest) Maassen.
She moved to the United States with her family at the age of 5. They settled near Sully, Iowa, where they farmed. They moved to the Rock Valley area when Effie was 15 years old.
Effie married Ralph Van Ginkel on February 20, 1925 in Rock Valley. Together they farmed in the Rock Valley and Inwood area until their retirement into Rock Valley in 1956. Ralph died on December 30, 1976.
Effie moved to the Valley Manor on March 10, 1999. Effie was a lifetime member of the Netherlands Reformed Church.
Surviving relatives include one son and wife, John and Jeanette Van Ginkel of Rock Valley: 3 daughters and their husbands, Gertrude and William Vande Stouwe of Inwood, Iowa, Roevina and Gilbert C. Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, Ethel Rae and John Jr. Van Beek of Rock Valley; one daughter-in-law, Hermina Van Ginkel of Inwood; one sister, Jennie Van Voorst of Rock Valley; 27 grandchildren, 84 greatgrandchildren and 3 great-greatgrandchildren.
Effie was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; one son, Everett Van Ginkel; six brothers; 4 sisters; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
