Carlos Peter Collins as the son of Roy Day Collins (1880-1960) & Edith "Lillian" Boyes (1878-1973). He grew up & attended school in Fairview, & except for spending the winter months in Arizona after he retired, Richland Co, Montana, was his home.

During his 1st three grades, he got to school in a horse-drawn school bus, & that was replaced with a model T Ford bus.

He worked in a grocery store & a gas station during the summers of 1930 & '31, & graduated from Fairview High School the next year. In 1933 he worked as a postal clerk in the Fairview Post Office, then went south to Los Angeles, California, in the fall of '34 to attend McKays Business College.

On 1 Feb 1935, Carlos, his father Roy & his brother-in-law Kenneth Harris Gardner, formed a partnership & established Collins Mercantile Company, a John Deere farm implement dealership in Fairview.

Carlos was married in Sidney, Richland Co, Montana, on 27 Jul 1940, to Lucille Mae Sedlacek (1920-2005), the daughter of Ladislav Otto Sedlacek & Hazel Mae Kerns.

When his father Roy retired about 1946, most of the shares in the farm implement dealership were sold to the 2 younger partners, although Roy continued working in the office. Roy passed away in Nov 1960, & 2 years later Carlos & Kenneth expanded their customer base by purchasing the John Deere dealership that was located 11 miles away in Sidney. After a brief renovation, the Fairview facility was closed & Collins Mercantile Company reopened in Sidney, the county seat. By 1971 a new building was erected just northwest of Sidney & all of the business was consolidated there.

Kenneth retired in 1973 & although he retained ownership of the building, everything else was sold to Carlos & Lucille. Five years later Carlos retired & the business was sold.

Carlos enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting & horseback riding. He was a charter member of the Fairview Lions Club & a 53-year-member of the Fairview Cemetery Association. He was also an active member of the Fairview Community Church, a congregation that was formed when the original Presbyterian Church located at Ridgelawn united with a small Methodist congregation to form a united church, which later moved into Fairview.

Carlos passed away at his home just south of Fairview. Members of his immediate family still living at that time included his daughter Carla Malsam & her husband Gary of Fairview; his daughter Dianne Murray of Liberty lake, Washington; 5 grandchildren; & 10 great-grandchildren.
