The Fulton Daily Sun-Gazette: MRS. MARTHA JANE MIRTS:
Mrs. Martha Jane Mirts, 70 years old, widow of the late John Mirts, who died three years ago, died at her home four miles southwest of Fulton, Sunday, as a result of a stroke of paralysis that she had in November. She had been in bad health for a year.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Mount Carmel Methodist Church, southwest of Fulton, by the Reverend Orville Blackburn, of Fulton, who was assisted by the Reverend Alonzo Pearson, also of Fulton. Burial was in the cemetery of the church.
Mrs. Mirts's maiden name was Allen. She was born in Pennsylvania on December 27, 1844 and was married in that stat about fifty years ago to John Mirts. They lived in Pennsylvania about ten years after their marriage and then moved to the farm southwest of Fulton on which they lived the remainder of their lives.
Mrs. Mirts is survived by the following children, Roy Mirts of Muskogee, Oklahoma, William S. Mirts of Guthrie, Missouri, Mrs. Arthur Finley of New Bloomfield, Missouri, J.H. Mirts and Mrs. Lee Dunavant, all of Fulton.
Mrs. Mirts was a member of the Mount Carmel Methodist Church and when she physically able took an active part in the work of both the church and the Sunday School. She was a quiet, simple motherly woman who devoted most of her life to her family and who, through her splendid virtues, won the admiration and esteem of all who knew her.
The bereaved family has the deep sympathy of the community in their sorrow.
Martha Jane Mirts, 71, of rural Fulton, Missouri, died June 13, 1915 at her home.
Dr. R.N. Crews, of Fulton, prononced death caused by Apoplexy and Cerebral Hemorrhage. Informant was Will Mirts of rural Fulton.
Martha was born December 27, 1844, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of unnamed parents. She was united in marriage to John Mirts and he preceeded her in death on March 30, 1912. . Martha was a housewife.
Arrangements were under the direction of Herndon Taylor and burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetary.
