The son of William Taft Brown and his second wife Clara Beatrice (Whisler) the widow of George Epler. Adopted and raised by William Taft Brown.

The husband first of Iva Olive Buhrman they married 5 April 1931 and who died 24 Feb 1940 after the birth of their daughter; husband secondly of Beatrice (Whisler) Epler married 4 January 1947.
