Christine Amonette Savage Weatherby, 92, of Hubbard passed away Sunday, May 16, 2004. She was born September 3, 1911, in Hubbard, the oldest of four children born to Roy and Kate Amonette. She was a graduate of Baylor University where she earned both Bachelor and Master degrees as well as principal and superintendent administrative certificates. She held memberships in several professional organizations, including the Hill County Retired Teachers Association, Texas State Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Gamma Delta Chapter. She was also a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Hubbard. She began her career in education at the young age of 18 at Pickett Rural High in Navarro County for two years. Her next three schools were all in Hill County with Cold Corner Common #42 being her first, followed by Herbert Common #89, known as Scott School. Her final stop in her teaching and administrative career was with Hubbard Independent School District as both a teacher of mathematics and a principal for 27 years. She gave 42 years of her life to educating our future generations before retiring in 1971. Survivors include: one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Wanda Amonette of Hubbard; three nephews, Billy Wayne Amonette and wife, Judy, of Deer Park, Don Amonette and wife, Jan, of Pasadena and Robert Biesiot of Memphis, Tennessee; four nieces, Helen Biesiot Fowler and husband, Jimmy, of Jackson, Mississippi, Lesa Amonette Nowlin and husband, Ronnie, of Bynum, Susan Biesiot Lipcaman and husband, Shannon, of Fort Worth and Laura Amonette Saucke and husband, Mike, of Hubbard; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Wade Funeral Home Chapel in Hubbard. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard. Rev. Jerry Irwin officiated.
Pallbearers were Travis Phillips, Lewis Tekell, Wayne Kilgo, Billy Roy Mitchum, Don Anderson, Otto Mills and Armin Piel. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Ray Hammer, Bill Powell, James Anderson, Billy Jarvis, Thomas Walker, Scott Riddle and Bill Weatherby. Memorials may be made to Fairview Cemetery Association or charity of one's choice.
