Private John Philip Strain, the son of William Frank and Eliza J. Strain; born June 25, 1893, Indianapolis, Ind. Paper hanger. Enlisted in Company M, 3rd Infantry, Ohio National Guard, April 16, 1917, Hamilton, Ohio. Sent to Eden Park, Cincinnati, Ohio; assigned to Company M, 166th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Overseas October 26, 1917. Assigned to Company L, 146th Infantry, 41st Division. Died of pneumonia November 4, 1918. Buried in American Cemetery, Soully, Meuse, France.

6-2012, I requested a photo of his gravestone and received the reply: "this grave you requested is not in the Meuse Argonne cemetery but in the Aisne Marne."
I discovered his remains were brought home by his parents and interred at Memorial Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
