Anton Bednarek, 72, died Monday, July 9. He was born on January 10, 1879 in Poland as the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bednarek. When he was 2 years old his parents left the old country and came to Texas in 1881 and lived in the Bremond Community being engaged in farming.
Later they moved to Chapel Hill near Brenham. He married Miss Martha Borowicz 48 years ago. Mr. Bednarek worked for the Santa Fe Railroad andd they made their home in Cleburne, Texas. From Cleburne they moved back to Chapel Hill, where they farmed. In 1913 they moved to Fort Bend County to the Woodrow Community; from there to Rosenberg. Later they bought a farm in the Needville Community. Their union was blessed with 10 children, 8 daughters and 2 sons, of which one boy and one girl died in infancy.
Mr. Bednarek enjoyed good health until 3 years ago when he suffered a stroke. He never fully recovered. He took sick Thursday, July 5 and was taken to the Polly Ryan Hospital.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha Bednarek of Needville; 7 daughters, Mrs. Annie Garnoski of Sugar Land, Mrs. Rose Nowak of Booth, Mrs. Pearl Bowker of Pharr, Mrs. Theresa Kagler of Rosenberg, Route 1, Mrs. Sophie Janecka of Needville, Mrs. Lorene Bachert of Houston, Mrs. Verna Pagel of Baytown; one son, Theore Bednarek of Needville; and 23 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, July 11, 1951, at 3:00 p.m. from the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needville, with Rev. J.R. Vilt and Rev. D. W. Tunnell officiating. Burial was in the Needville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chester Nowak, J.W. Anderson, Daniel Psencik, Theo. Garnoski, Julius Balcerowicz, and Daniel Bowker. Funeral services were under the direction of the Foerster Funeral Home.
