Birth: Aug. 27, 1852, Canada
Death: May 10, 1934
Michigan, USA

~~~GREAT GREAT GRANDMOTHER~~~
Mary Elizabeth (Eby)Scholte was born in Kitchner, Ontario Canada on August 27, 1852 to Lemuel Eby and Lucy Ann (Baumann) Eby.
She married John B Scholte in 1875 and they had the following children: Anna Fredericke Scholte; Elsie Elizabeth Scholte (Preuss); John B Scholte (died as infant); Frederick William Scholte; Alice Scholte (Nickerson) and Milford Scholte. Mary Elizabeth and John apparently had eight children but two of them died in childhood; including their son John B Jr.
In 1887, Mary Elizabeth and John moved to Langdon, North Dakota where Mary Elizabeth's parents were already living. In 1893, Mary Elizabeth's parents both died, almost exactly one month apart from each other; presumably from some sort of epidemic or illness.
By 1900, Mary Elizabeth and John were living in Sheboygan, Wisconsin with their son, Frederick William Scholte and his family. John B Scholte died in October of 1928 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Mary Elizabeth Eby later moved with her grand daughter (Frederick's daughter) Myrtle Scholte to Michigan. Mary Elizabeth died in Michigan on May 10, 1934 at the age of 81.
Myrtle Emma Scholte Woodruff was with her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth, at the time of her death. Myrtle described Mary Elizabeth Eby Scholte as a very kind and gentle woman. She loved her grandmother dearly. She remembered Mary Elizabeth telling her stories about living in a log cabin in North Dakota. In the winter, snow would seep through slats in between the logs of the cabin and they had to sleep under a bear skin blanket to keep warm. She also talked about worrying that "the indians would take her children". Mary Elizabeth and her husband, as well as their son Milford and his wife, are all buried in Wildwood cemetery in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
(NOTE** The above birth date is based on family records, a family Bible and census records. I can only guess that the Scholte head stone was engraved long after Mary Elizabeth's and John B Scholte's death as the birth date of both is incorrect on the gravestone.The obituary at right also has the incorrect birth year.)
