For five seasons (1950 to 1954), he played at the offensive-guard and linebacker positions with the Baltimore Colts, New York Yanks and Dallas Texans. Born Sisto Joseph Averno, he attended Paterson High School (New Jersey) and later was stationed in the South Pacific with the US Navy during World War II. Upon returning home, he played collegiate football at Muhlenberg College (Pennsylvania) and signed as a non-drafted player with Baltimore, who joined the NFL after the All-America Football Conference folded at the conclusion of the 1949 season. Averno would have the misfortune of playing on five consecutive teams with loosing records including two squads which went 1 and 11 (1950 Colts and 1952 Texans). He concluded his career after the 1954 season with 51 total games played in. Following football, he worked for more than half a century as an automobile salesman. (bio by: C.S.)
