Born in New York in 1816, Charles married Dorinda White in 1837 in Iowa. They lived in Kansas & raised 2 daughters: Mary Ellen Withington-Hayden, Kathryn Jeannette Withington-Unfug & 2 sons: George Edward Withington and Albert P Withington. Charles was a wealthy merchant before the Civil War, a Hotel owner after the war, and a farmer at the end of his life. When Charles' wife died in Kansas in 1880, Charles fulfilled a life long dream to travel to California to visit his brother, Richard Hall Withington in Sacramento, California. Charles died of cholera in 1881 and is buried in the Historic Sacramento City Cemetery, California.
