**Born Tsu-ni-gu-hi-ga; tombstone shows that he was a member of the Masonic Lodge; he was Full-Blood Cherokee.

Little Terrapin left AL and moved his family to the Dardanelles in AR, where other groups of Cherokees had already settled known as the Old Settlers.
In 1834 when Tsu-ni-gu-hi-ga was 12, he was sent to the Choctaw Academy in KY. He returned at the age of 17 with his name changed to Hercules Terrapin Martin.
He served as interpreter for Montfort Stokes, the Cherokee Agency at Manard, IT (OK). He was also appointed the first postmaster at Manard. He was a Clerk of the Cherokee Senate and penned the Laws of the Cherokee Nation in 1851.
He was a LT. in the Confederate Army.
Hercules was married to Permelia Griffin and is buried beside her with a child that lies between them.
They had the following known children:
