NEWPORT - Dolphas "Gigg" Hale, 83, of Parrottsville, died Tuesday at Takoma Adventist Hospital in Greeneville after an extended illness.

Mr. Hale was a farmer.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife: Mamie Janette Jackson Hale; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Beacher Hale of Newport and Jake and Karen Hale of Parrottsville; seven daughters and five sons-in-law: Lodema Wilburn of Parrottsville, Kenneth Wilburn of Del Rio, Faye Haney of Newport, Edith "Poke" and Dorsey Fine of Newport, Dona "Cricket" Russell of Talbott, Marie and Gene Widener of New Market, Kathy and Mike Self of Parrottsville, and Dorothy and Dwight Wilson of Bean Station; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Vine Sane and Ruby Peters, both of Greeneville; a brother-in-law: George Mermen Gunter of Newport; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years: Jeanette Gunter Hale; his second wife: Mary Edith Ottinger; his parents: Sidney and Minnie Sawyer Hale; an infant daughter: Tammy Hale; a granddaughter; an infant great-grandson; two brothers: Bert Hale and Fred Hale; and two sisters: Dona Hale Rickers and Mary Hale Blazer.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 this evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home, Newport.

The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Paul Jennings and the Rev. Leon Large will officiate.

Interment will be in River Hill Cemetery in Greene County
