Louisa was the daughter of Christian and Caroline Körner of Sankt Andreasberg, Landkreis Goslar, Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Germany. She emigrated to the United States with her soon to be husband, Heinrich Harke in May of 1881. She married Heinrich in November of 1881. She had five children, three of whom survived into adulthood, Heinrich, Louisa and Katherine.
