He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired farmer and carpenter.
He is survived by one son, Jimmy Carter of Birmingham, Ala.; and one grandson, Christopher Carter of Asheville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carter; two sisters; and six brothers. His parents were Henry and Lois Ballard Carter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Fancy Farm with the Rev. Darrell Venters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield is in charge of arrangements.
