Daughter of Ellen Wilson, she never knew her father (Harry) as he died of pneumonia the same year that she was born. She married in 1940 to Carlton Yeates and bore five children. She left the marriage in 1964, supporting her children on her own by taking a clerical position at the Downsview Army Base and later as a secretary in a medical office. She died at the age of 83 of natural causes.
