Stephen Bernard Devin was the third child of Joseph Francis Devin and Sarah Catherine McDonald. He had an older sister, Mary Alice; an older brother Joseph McDonald; and a younger sister, Eleanor. As a child, Stephen lived in Highland, CA, on the ranch belonging to his mother's family. Then, as a young man, the family moved to Los Angeles, and Stephen later attended Pomona College. Attracted to the study of medicine, he entered the Creighton University Medical School, Omaha, Nebraska, in 1928, and graduated in 1932. He completed his internship at Los Angeles County Hospital, and entered a general practice at Ross-Loos Medical Group in West Los Angeles. In 1937, he married Verne M. (Brownie) Brison, whom he had met while in Omaha. Soon after, he was called into the army to serve as a physician, principally in the South Seas, New Guinea and Saipan. After four-years of service he returned to Los Angeles and opened his own office in Alhambra, California, specializing in General Practice. He was also on the staff at the Queen of Angels Hospital on Vermont Avenue, in Los Angeles. He resided in San Gabriel, CA, and had two sons: Joseph and Michael. Following retirement, he and his wife purchased a home in Oceanside, CA, where, at the age of 60 he suffered a massive coronary and died. He had three grandchildren at the time of his death, followed by two more. He was too young to leave us and we miss him, still.
