VETERAN - CIVIL WAR

The death of John Smith, of 1915 Everett Street, occurred at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon, cancer being the cause. He was 74 years old and leaves a widow and five children, his second wife surviving. He served as a member of Co. K, 40th Indiana Infantry, during the Civil War, and was for years a blacksmith at Conroe. Mr. Smith was a member of the United Brethren church. The funeral will occur to-morrow morning at 9 o’clock from the house, Rev. A. G. Detch conducting the services. At that time a flag service will be held by John A. Logan Circle #7, Ladies of the GAR. The remains will be taken from the house to the Conroe M. E. church, where services will be held at 11 o’clock, Rev. Joseph Cooper officiating. Interment will be in Conroe cemetery.
