One of his best movie assignments was as 'Samuel Nails Nathan' in "The Public Enemy" (1931). In 1939, Fenton switched from acting to directing, working on such brisk programmers as “Tell No Tales,” “Tomorrow the World,” “Saigon” and “Whispering Smith.” For many years, Fenton was married to film star Ann Dvorak.
