SHELBURNE FALLS-Charles Albert Chandler, 74, of 77 Main St., retired farmer, died Saturday evening at The Anchorage Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1894 in Greenfield, he was the son of Marcellus and Clara (WRisley) Chandler. He lived most of his life in the Shelburne Falls area, having attended Arm Academy.
He was a farmer for many years in Shelburne Falls and for 14 years he farmed in Whitingham, Vt. He also served 30 years as superintendent of Arms Cemetery and was a former member of the Shelburne Falls Grange.
He leaves his widow, the former Ruth Alice Learmont, whom he married Oct. 1, 1919, in Shelburne Falls Baptist Church; two sons, Robert of Shelburne Falls and Harvey of Buckland; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Mrs. Blanche Whalen of Holyoke, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Rev. Fred Huebner of the East Charlemont Bible Church will officiate and burial will be in Arms Cemetery.
