**********
Moved to Gravelbourg, Sask with her mother, and sister Pearl to live with her sister Mary & her husband Alex.

Mabel took her "teachers training" in the Gravelbourg area, and taught for a short time at one of the English schools.

She met, and married Philip Lagasse in Gravelbourg, Sask. Their eldest daughter Margaret was born in Gravelbourg, Sask. It was hard times in the 30's in that area, drought & many farmers lost their farms. Philip went to the St. Paul/Bonneyville area to look for work. Mabel followed shortly after, and sons Omer & Leo were born in St. Paul, AB, and Sylvia in Bonneyville, AB (1939). The family moved to Maillardville, BC (french community that is now part of New Westminster, BC) before Sylvia was 1 years old. Many of Mabel's husband's family and extended family moved to Maillardville during the same period of time. Many were looking for work - and father Maillard had convinced many from Quebec to come there to work in the Sawmill. The family lived, and worked in the predominately French community where the Sawmill was the focal point - company school, pretty much everything owned or controlled by the company. Mabel initially worked in Maillardville, however, then worked in Vancouver several jobs, Accountant for "Crush" and also as a Court Stenographer - she was the primary bread winner in the family even though at that time wages for woman were sometimes less than 1/2 what a male earned doing the same job. The family after many years bought a house on 10th Avenue in Burnaby, BC were Mabel resided until her death. She had cancer, and was sick for quite some time before she passed away.
