She married Robert Goolsby on Jan. 29, 1955. Together they raised their three children in Kennard. In 1983, after her children were grown and gone from home Alyce received her Bachelor's Degree from Dana College, and earned a Master's Degree from UNO. Alyce taught school at Wranch Country School and Washington Public School until its consolidation with Bennington Public School. She retired from Bennington in 2003. Alyce enjoyed camping and cooking for her family and friends. In 2005 Alyce and Robert became winter Texans.
Alyce is preceeded in death by her parents Luther & Helen Bennett, husband Robert. She is survived by sons Bruce and wife Katherine A. Goolsby, Bradley and wife Katherine K. Goolsby; daughter Deborah Goolsby; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers Gayle Bennett and wife Mary, Dan Bennett and wife Gail; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Alyce Jean Goolsby were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 27, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Tekamah. (Songs: Amazing Grace, Voice of Truth, When I Get Where I'm Going. Pallbearers: John Goolsby, Steve Goolsby, Mark Goolsby, Scott Tachovsky, Dan Bennett, Charlie Stevens. Honorary Pallbearers: Gayle Bennett, Lloyd Gray, Orval Fleishman, Bill Plugge, Michael Oldfield, Vern Schulz).
Burial followed in the Verdon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Church of the donor's choice in Alyce's name.
