Francisea "Frances" BRECHT Married Anthony Andrew MATHERN in 1852 or 1853 in Muskingum, Ohio, USA.

Jan. 1899 Free press Tama, Iowa

Miss Francisea Brecht was born in Baden, Germany April 9, 1830, died in Tama, Iowa Jan 13, 1899. Francisea came to America with her parents in 1852, locating in Muskingum County, Ohio and in 1853 married Anthony Andrew Mathern. They came to Iowa in 1854, locating in Iowa Co. and moved to Tama Co. in May 1857, locating in Carlton Twp. And 8 years later moved to Howard Twp. And continued to reside there until 1877, when they moved to the city of Tama and it was her home until death, where she is survived by a bereaved husband.

Eight children were born to them, 4 girls and 4 boys, 5 of whom 2 sons and 3 daughters are still living and were at her bedside when she let go of life, and sought a home in the arms of her saviour, her loved body being encircled by the arms of their 3 daughters as the soul forsook the earthly form and winged its way to the land beyond.

Mrs. Mathern was a member of the Catholic Church and it can be said of her that she was a good consistent Christian woman. She had never enjoyed robust health, and yet she was industrious and her great aim seemed to be the care and comfort of her family and the gaining of competency for old age to help them start in life. Most truthful was that she was a dutiful and helpful wife, a loving mother and a kind and considerate friend and good neighbor. Her home and the rearing of her young so they would become good men and woman had the first place in her motherly heart, and right well she performed that mission. She lived a good life, earned the reward of a good home on high and her memory will long be cherished by relatives, friends and acquaintances.

The Funeral services were held Sunday January 15, 1899 at the Catholic Church with Rev. Carroll conducting and was attended by a large number of sorrowing and sympathizing relatives and neighbors.
